1 Paint fell from ₦1,330 to ₦1,300 across nine Lagos markets in the week to 14 August 2026, a decline of ₦30 or 2.3%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems market survey.
The Only Garri That Moved
The other two garri lines held. Garri (Yellow) rose from ₦1,456 to ₦1,460, an increase of 0.3% across all 10 markets, and Garri (Ijebu) was unchanged at ₦1,260, though that reading rests on only five markets and should be treated as the thinnest coverage in the survey. White garri sits ₦160 below yellow at the same measure, a discount of 11.0%.
A Clean Doubling Between Markets
A paint of white garri costs ₦1,000 at Oyingbo Market and ₦2,000 at Ajah Market. That is a 100% premium, the widest ratio recorded anywhere in this week's Lagos basket. A household buying four paints a month spends ₦4,000 at Oyingbo and ₦8,000 at Ajah. Against last week's mean, the same four paints now cost ₦5,200 rather than ₦5,320, a saving of ₦120. The weekly saving is worth about 3% of what the market choice is worth.
Where the Sources Line Up and Where They Do Not
Nairametrics reported that National Bureau of Statistics data showed white garri sold loose falling 39.86% year-on-year in April 2026 to ₦808.96 per kilogram from ₦1,345.10, though it rose 0.93% month-on-month. Legit.ng covered the same NBS release and agreed on the annual decline while noting the small monthly increase. Procurement Resource attributed falling garri prices to a cassava glut, reporting that oversupply in Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries pushed prices down and left Benue State farmers selling at much lower rates despite high production. Those three agree with the direction recorded in Lagos this week. Vanguard, reporting the July 2026 CPI, noted that the National Bureau of Statistics listed garri among the items whose average price changes lifted food inflation to 20.31% year-on-year. That national monthly reading points the other way from the Lagos weekly mean, and the survey figure of ₦1,300 is what Lagos markets recorded in the week to 14 August 2026.
