Pepper (Rodo) fell 7.4% to an average of ₦2,500 per kg across 10 Lagos markets in the week of 18 September 2026, the largest decline among staple condiments, according to FoodPrices Nigeria data drawn from the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems weekly survey.
Peppers Pull Back Together
Local Shombo followed rodo lower, down 4.8% to a mean of ₦2,370 per kg across the same 10 markets. For a Lagos household making a pot of stew with a kilogram of each, the two peppers now cost ₦4,870 combined at current averages. Pepper is also among the items the National Bureau of Statistics named as driving August's food inflation slowdown, as reported by Nairametrics.
Garri Eases on Both Colours
Garri (White) fell 2.2% on the week and Garri (Yellow) fell 2.1%, both measured as means across 10 markets. The near-identical moves suggest supply is improving across the cassava chain rather than in a single variety.
Onions Slip Again
Onions declined 1.9% across 10 markets in the same week. That is consistent with a longer national trend: WFP retail data held by FoodPrices Nigeria shows onions at ₦300 per 0.5kg from July 2026, down 28.7% from ₦421 a year earlier.
The Wider Picture
The week's direction was clearly downward. Across 3,672 market-level prices, 164 fell and 131 rose. Beans and imported short grain rice were the only items to post rises of note, leaving pepper, garri and onions among the clearest savings for Lagos shoppers this week.
