Olam Rolls Out New Flour and Semolina Brands in Lagos

Olam Agri's wheat milling business, Crown Flour Mill, has launched two new products in Nigeria as it moves to meet changing demand from households and food businesses, according to ThisDay. The company introduced Mama's Choice Wheat Flour and Mama's Pride Semolina during customer engagement sessions in Lagos attended by distributors, bakers and confectioners.

What the Products Offer

The new flour targets household and confectionery use, with the company saying it delivers finer, whiter results while using less oil during frying, making it suited to foods such as chin chin, puff puff, doughnuts, cakes and meat pies, Milling MEA reported. The semolina contains added vitamins and micronutrients and is designed for a smooth, firm texture that pairs with the local soups common in Nigerian homes.

A Pitch Built on Research

The Managing Director of Crown Flour Mill, Nitin Mehta, said the launches followed extensive consumer research, noting that the products reflect the company's deep understanding of consumer preferences and its drive to support households and small businesses, as quoted by ThisDay. The Head of Marketing, Bola Adeniji, said product trials drew positive feedback, with users reporting a readiness to switch on the strength of cost and performance, according to Milling MEA.

Why a Local Miller Matters for Prices

Wheat-based staples sit at the mercy of imported grain costs and naira movements, so a domestically milled flour and semolina range adds competition in a segment exposed to currency swings. Nigeria's appetite for convenient, affordable wheat products continues to grow, and a major miller pushing new household lines into Lagos signals a contest for shelf space that buyers stand to gain from.

FoodPrices Nigeria tracks flour and other staples across Lagos markets. A new competitor in the flour and semolina segment is the kind of development that can reshape what households pay at the counter.
