Lekki-Jakande June Capture Brings Caprice Rice and a Full Pack Ladder to the Shelf

The week of June 1 was a broad capture at Lekki-Jakande Market, and a clutch of new rice lines entered the verified record for the first time. Caprice rice arrived in a full ladder, from N6,000 for 5kg and N12,000 for 10kg up to N30,000 for 25kg and N60,000 for a 50kg bag. Vitali long grain and My Choice short grain joined in similar fashion, with Vitali at N65,000 a bag and My Choice at N67,500. Royal Stallion also gained smaller pack sizes in the June capture, including 5kg at N6,000 and 10kg at N12,000. Because none of these has an earlier reading at the market, they are first verified captures rather than price movements.

The pack-size widening is the practical story. A household that cannot lay out N60,000 for a full bag of rice in one go now has verified 5kg, 10kg and 25kg prices to plan around at Lekki-Jakande, which lowers the barrier to buying a known-quality brand. This matters as the National Bureau of Statistics reports food inflation back above the headline rate at 16.06% year on year in April 2026, a level that pushes more buyers toward smaller, more affordable units.

Beans also widened in the June capture, with white beans by the derica at N1,167 and the paint bucket at N5,000, and 25kg bags entering for several varieties. Drum and white bean 50kg bag readings appeared as well but came in far above the established Oloyin and brown series, so they are held for field verification and are not published here.

A note on method: first captures are reported as debut readings, not as increases from zero. As more weeks of data come in, these June prices become the baseline for measuring future movement, which is how the platform keeps new lines honest.

Live readings sit on the Lekki-Jakande Market real-time prices page, and the building record sits on the historical prices tool.
