Egg Prices Record Weekly Decline
The mean price of a crate of medium-sized eggs declined by 3.1% in Lagos during the week of July 24, according to the FoodPrices weekly market data.
The average price fell from ₦5,740 on July 17 to ₦5,560 on July 24. This represents a ₦180 reduction in the mean price over the week.
The figures were calculated across 10 Lagos markets.
Ile-Epo Records The Lowest Price
The weekly data shows significant differences between the markets surveyed.
Ile-Epo Market recorded the cheapest price for a crate of medium-sized eggs at ₦4,000.
Agbalata Market recorded the highest price at ₦6,500.
This creates a ₦2,500 difference between the lowest and highest recorded market prices.
Consumers Monitor Egg Prices
Eggs are a widely purchased food item, making weekly changes relevant to households, food vendors and other buyers.
The 3.1% decline puts medium-sized eggs among the tracked products that recorded notable downward movements during the week.
The fall also means that the Lagos mean price was lower on July 24 than it had been one week earlier.
Mean Price Does Not Equal Every Market Price
FoodPrices Nigeria reports mean prices across surveyed markets. The ₦5,560 figure should therefore be understood as a Lagos market average rather than a fixed retail price.
Individual markets can record prices above or below the mean, as demonstrated by the ₦4,000 price at Ile-Epo and ₦6,500 at Agbalata.
The weekly market figures were sourced from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems market survey. Consumers can follow current food prices through https://foodprices.ng/real-time-prices.
