Garri gave Ikotun Market buyers some relief over the first quarter of 2026. A 50-kilogram bag of white garri was captured at N24,000 in the week of January 19 and at N19,000 by the week of March 23, a fall of N5,000 or 20.8 percent. The paint bucket fell further in proportion, from N2,000 to N1,500, a drop of 25.0 percent. The smallest measure ran against the trend, with a derica edging up from N400 to N500, the kind of divergence that often appears when retail sellers round small quantities even as bag prices fall.
The rest of the Ikotun sheet is built largely from first captures rather than week-to-week movements, and those readings set out a broad baseline for the market. In the week of March 23 a string of beans varieties appeared for the first time, including a 50-kilogram bag of Drum beans at N60,000, the same size of Oloyin beans at N60,000, and a cheaper Saddam grade at N50,000. The same week logged a 50-kilogram bag of groundnut seeds at N146,000 and a 50-kilogram bag of soya beans at N80,000, both useful reference points for a market that does not always report them. Earlier in the year, in the week of January 19, the market recorded a crate of medium eggs at N5,500, a 50-kilogram bag of Big Bull rice at N58,000 and a tuber of local yam at N2,000.
A note on labelling matters here. The market lists both a yellow garri line and a separate Garri Yellow line at different points, and because these carry different item names they are not treated as the same product. The white garri decline above is the one clean, like-for-like movement in the garri group, tracked at the same item and weight across two captures.
The easing in garri fits the national reading. The National Bureau of Statistics named garri and cassava among the products behind its April food inflation figure of 16.06 percent year on year, and garri prices have been sensitive to cassava supply and processing costs through 2026. A fall at the bag and paint bucket level at Ikotun points to easier local supply reaching that part of Lagos, even as the wider food basket stayed elevated. The slowdown in month-on-month food price growth that the bureau reported for April is consistent with staples like garri holding or falling at market level.
Buyers can track garri and the newly captured grains at Ikotun Market real-time prices and review the longer record through the historical prices page.
