Garri White Records The Biggest Increase
The mean price of Garri White sold by the Paint increased by 4.2% in Lagos during the week of July 24, according to the FoodPrices weekly market data.
The average price rose from ₦1,267 on July 17 to ₦1,320 on July 24. The increase makes Garri White the strongest upward mover among the tracked food products for the week.
The figures were calculated across 10 Lagos markets and were included in the market survey from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems.
Ajah Records The Highest Price
Market prices varied considerably across the locations surveyed.
Oyingbo Market recorded the cheapest price for Garri White at ₦1,000 per Paint, while Ajah Market recorded the highest price at ₦2,000.
The ₦1,000 difference between the lowest and highest recorded prices shows that the mean Lagos price does not reflect a uniform price across all markets.
Garri Prices Move In Different Directions
Garri White was one of the products recording an increase during the reporting week. The other tracked Garri varieties showed different movements.
Garri Ijebu rose from ₦1,260 to ₦1,275, representing a 1.2% increase, while Garri Yellow recorded a smaller 0.4% increase, moving to a mean of ₦1,511.
The movements show that different varieties of the same staple can experience different weekly price changes.
Consumers Continue To Monitor Prices
The increase in Garri White's mean price may be relevant to households and food businesses that regularly purchase the product.
However, the reported ₦1,320 is a mean price across 10 markets and should not be treated as a fixed price for every retailer.
FoodPrices Nigeria tracks individual food products and units to provide a clearer picture of weekly market movements.
