Its previous reading was ₦48,000 in the week of February 23, so the June figure is a climb of 181.3% across that roughly three-and-a-half month gap. White beans had no earlier bag reading and is a first capture. Retail, by contrast, barely moved, a paint of drum beans holding at ₦5,000 and a derica at ₦1,000, both unchanged from March, while oloyin eased at the bag to ₦70,000 from ₦74,000 in the week of March 16, down 5.4%.
Against Lekki-Jakande, the Same Week
Ajah is the dearer market on the heavy beans. A 50kg bag of drum beans cost ₦6,667 more than at Lekki-Jakande Market, and white beans cost ₦11,667 more. Only oloyin ran cheaper at Ajah, by ₦3,333. At retail the order reverses, with a paint of drum beans ₦333 cheaper at Ajah, so Ajah punishes the bag buyer but rewards the paint buyer.
Against the Rest of Lagos
When Agege, Oshodi, Ipaja, Iyana Ipaja and Ayobo were last captured in March and April, a 50kg bag of drum beans sat between ₦60,000 and ₦65,000. Ajah's June bag is more than double that earlier level, the steepest staple reading anywhere in the file.
