Ajah Market White Garri Rebounds to N27,000 a Bag in June After February Dip to N20,000

White garri at Ajah Market traced a clear V through the first half of 2026. A 50kg bag opened the year at N26,000 in the week of January 19, fell to N20,000 across February, then climbed to N27,000 by the week of June 1. That is a 23.1% drop into the February trough followed by a 35.0% rebound out of it, leaving the bag 3.8% above where it started the year. For a staple as widely eaten as garri, the round trip matters to any buyer who stocked up at the wrong point.

The paint bucket moved against the bag. It eased from N1,500 in January to N1,300 by June 1, a fall of 13.3%, even as the bag climbed. The split between a rising bag and a falling small measure is the kind of detail that rewards buyers who watch the unit they actually purchase rather than the headline bag price. Yellow garri followed a similar bag path, sitting at N20,000 through February and lifting to N21,000 by June, while its 25kg bag was captured for the first time in June at N10,500.

Cassava-derived staples like garri have featured in the national price commentary as items that swing on harvest timing and transport. The National Bureau of Statistics named garri among the staples behind the movement in food prices through the spring, even as the annual rate of food inflation remained far below its 2025 levels. The garri rebound at Ajah, set against a softening rice market in the same weeks, shows how unevenly the staple basket has moved.

Live readings sit on the Ajah Market real-time prices page, and shoppers can track the bag against the paint bucket on the historical prices tool.
