The week of June 1 was one of the fuller captures at Ajah Market, and several lines entered the verified price record for the first time. On rice, Aani Golden Sella basmati appeared at N21,000 for a 5kg pack and N11,500 for 2kg, the first premium long grain basmati tracked at the market. A wave of mid-size packs also showed up, with short grain imported rice at N30,000 for 25kg, My Choice short grain at N36,500 for 25kg, and Vitali long grain at N32,500 for 25kg. Because none of these has an earlier reading, they are first verified captures rather than movements, and they point to a market stocking a wider spread of pack sizes for buyers who do not want a full bag.
Beans widened too. White beans entered by the derica at N1,000, the paint bucket at N5,000 and the 25kg bag at N60,000 in the June capture. Drum and white bean 50kg bag readings also appeared but came in well above the Oloyin series, so they are held back for field verification and are not published here.
Garri rounded out the new pack sizes, with white garri at N13,500 for 25kg and yellow garri at N10,500 for the same size joining the established 50kg bags.
This kind of shelf widening matters for affordability. Smaller verified pack sizes give households a way to buy staples without committing to a full bag, which is increasingly relevant as the National Bureau of Statistics reports food inflation back above the headline rate at 16.06% year on year in April 2026. A buyer who cannot find N60,000 for a bag of rice in one go can now see a verified 25kg price to plan around.
A note on method: first captures are reported as debut readings, not as increases from zero, in keeping with how this platform tracks new lines. As more weeks come in, these June prices will become the baseline against which future movements are measured.
Live readings sit on the Ajah Market real-time prices page, and the historical record builds on the historical prices tool.
